I'm now 43 days (6 weeks) into my journey to lose weight and get healthy. I'm so happy to report that I'm well on my way. I've lost 16 pounds now and 4 inches, so far. Just in the last few days, I'm really starting to see a difference... the way I look, the way my clothes fit, and how much more energy I have. Mostly, I'm proud of my commitment to this and how I'm sticking to it! Feels amazing!!! It's giving me self-confidence I didn't have before. As Demi Lovato sings... "What's wrong with being confident?" Right, ladies?! Men love confident women!
I'm not only happy to be losing weight and toning up my body... I'm so excited about donating money for every pound I lose to St. Jude Children's Hospital. As of right now, my donation is up to $164. As time goes on, I hope to lose lots more weight and raise that donation much higher!! I hope some of you will be encouraged to do the same... get healthy this year and turn it into a blessing to others. WE LOSE, THEY GAIN is very simple... donate money or time for every pound you lose or drop a dollar in a jar every time you exercise or make a healthy choice... then donate those dollars to your favorite charity. I'd love to hear from any of you taking the challenge!!
Gotta brag on the hubs, too... He's also eating healthier and fitting in workouts as he can. He's lost a whopping 17 pounds. Very proud of him! (But, ladies, why is it so much easier for men to lose weight? Why, oh, why?!!)
I'd love to hear from any of you out there going through the same weight loss process. I'd love to hear what is working for you. Remember, we aren't competing against each other. We all win when we all get healthier. Let's encourage each other and share, share, share anything that helps others achieve their goals :)
Love ya all,
Day 22... Still going strong... working out & watching my calories. The GOOD news... After 3 full weeks, I've lost 9.2 pounds! The GREAT news... That translates into $92 that I'm donating to St. Jude's Children's Hospital, so far!!!
I'm working hard for those pounds to come off... doing an exercise class almost every night. I've always heard it takes 21 days of doing something to become a habit. I started on January 1, and today's the 22nd. However, I've had two rest days so far. So, that puts me at 20 days, I think... I suck at math!! Anyway, I'm pretty addicted to working out. While it sucks sometimes at the time, there is no better feeling than after the workout when you realize you did it. I can also feel myself getting stronger every day. That's a great feeling!
Ooh, I also had a cool thing happen... I can now wear a pair of jeans that were too tight just a month ago. Now, I'm still not proud of the actual size of those jeans, but the fact that they now fit very comfortably tells me my body is slowing changing.
Before I go, I have to share with you something I saw on TV this morning. Here in Middle Tennessee, we've gotten more snow today than we've had in years. One of the local news stations had a live report showing how bad the roads were. There was a Krispy Kreme truck completely stuck... the tragedy!! Have you guys ever had a Krispy Kreme donut??!! My God... It's like they bake crack right into those delicious little circles of love!! I could imagine the warm donuts in the back of that truck getting cold as the driver struggled to gain traction in the snow. Suddenly, a guy jumps on the back of the truck and proceeds to keep jumping on the back end until the driver breaks free. That single guy saved the day for those folks waiting for their ooey, gooey donuts! Hooray for that guy! In his honor, someone go eat a Krispy Kreme for me!!!
Twerking, tracking, and tabulating... that's what I've been spending time on lately... working on my twerk in hip hop dance class, tracking my exercise, and tabulating my daily calories. One is more fun than the other two... Can you guess which one? Ha! ;)
Well, here I am at Day 13... still at it. To be completing honest, I'm not loving what the scale is saying, but I WILL NOT GIVE UP!!!
I'm actually feeling much stronger every day! I'm working out six days a week with one day off to rest. I've just started mixing in a weight-lifting class. I plan to do that 3 days a week to build up strength and to have it help boost my metabolism.
Gotta say... I'm loving the group exercise classes. The instructors will push you harder than you'll ever push yourself. Plus, I'm uber competitive, so not keeping up with others is NOT an option. I'll do it or die!! Just a tip... Don't ever play a board game with me. I play TO WIN! Hehe. (But seriously, I will take you down!)
A huge shout out to all of you fighting the good fight to get healthy this year. I see you in the gym doing your thang and not worrying about what others think! It takes guts to put on those crazy tight workout clothes and strut into public(obviously, men design workout bras... Holy crap, I need a system of levers and pulleys to get that thing off when I'm sweaty!!!). It takes guts to go into a workout class with 75% of the people in it already looking like they stepped out of a fitness magazine. It takes guts to stick to it and make a commitment to yourself. I applaud you all! We got this... This is our year!!
With lots of love,
Hey, guys! Today is Day 7 of me taking back my body & health. I'm feeling really good, but I'm also nervous about tomorrow. Tomorrow is... dum, dum, dum... my first weigh-in. I want that scale to show at least a little progress, but if it doesn't, I won't give up. I'm in this to lose weight and to donate money for each pound I lose to St. Jude's Children's Hospital. It helps the kids, and it helps me stay focused on something bigger than me!
I wanted to share with you something I'm calling intentional exercising. At the beginning of the week, I'm going through my gym's class schedule and picking classes I'd like to take and that work with my schedule. I'm then putting those classes or times at the gym in my phone's calendar... I'm scheduling them just like an important meeting. It's amazing how much you'll want to stick to your 'schedule.' Without doing this, I'll find myself with no plan, and I'll end up talking myself out of going. Between scheduling my workouts and planning my meals for the week in advance, this is really working for me. Give it a try and see if it works for you!
Better run for now... Talk soon!
Hey, guys! Here I am at Day 3 of my weight-loss journey. I'm excited but kinda hungry, too!!
I did something today that I think will help me stay on track... Maybe it can help you, too. I planned out all of my dinners for the coming week. It was as easy as getting on Pinterest and finding lower in fat foods that my family will actually eat. This will help us tremendously, because we fall into the same trap constantly. We say "What's for dinner?," have no clue, and end up grabbing fast food. I want to end that cycle.
Another tool I'm using to set myself up for success is tracking my food and exercise in MyFitnessPal. This app is great, and it's totally FREE! I can search for foods to track or scan the bar code, and it gives me all the nutritional info. Food from every restaurant is in there as well. The app keeps up with your current weight, goal weight, and calorie allotment for the day. I can't say enough great things about this app. It does what a major diet company makes you pay for!
I'm also excited to have my whole family involved in eating better and moving more. Every other time I've tried to lose weight, I've been on my own... trying to eat better, while my husband and son eat whatever they want. Now, THAT'S HARD! I'm hoping that a group effort will work better!
Even though I've lost and gained back tons of weight over the years since I had my son, I am optimistic that this time will be different. For one thing, I'm just over feeling sluggish and not looking my best. Secondly, I'm excited to form a community with you guys where we can share our successes and encourage each other. And most importantly, I'm pledging to donate $10 to my favorite charity for each pound I lose & $1 for each inch I lose. I'm excited that the weight loss isn't just about me. As I lose, those less fortunate will gain. What could be better than that?
Ooh, one last thing... I just included a Forum page on my website. It's a place where we can share our successes, encourage each other, and share weight loss tips and low-fat recipes. Let's get the conversation started!
Love ya all,
Hi, guys! I'm so excited to introduce WE LOSE, THEY GAIN. It's an idea that's been rolling around in my head for a while now, and 2016 is the perfect year to make it happen!
The idea is beyond simple, but the results will be amazing!
Here how it works:
1. You decide if you want to lose weight or just make a commitment to get more exercise in 2016.
2. Tie a monetary amount to each pound or inch lost or decide to donate x amount of hours to volunteer in your community for x amount of hours spent exercising.
3. Make a commitment to yourself and then do the work... exercise and eat better.
4. When the weight/inches are lost or at the end of the year when you tally up your hours exercising, donate to your favorite charity. Any charity is great... Just give!!!
I hope you'll join me in such a simple way to take back our health AND help your favorite cause.
I'll also be blogging about my weight loss journey and hope to hear from you about yours!
Talk to you again soon,
